In this project, we are adding unto an existing 1920′s home.
This project involves completely renovating the first floor,
with our primary focus being on a new kitchen.

The existing floor plan is on the left, with the proposed
on the right. Note currently how far away the kitchen
is from the center of the house, specifically to the dining.
We will be building an addition, allowing the kitchen to
be centrally located. We’re also working in a new mudroom.

May 29, 2012

An existing second floor deck is demo’d to
make room for the new kitchen addition.

With the deck out of the way, excavation
begins for trench footings.

Inside, Alex begins demolition of the existing kitchen cabinets.

June 6, 2012

Brick is removed because these walls
will become part of the interior.

The kitchen demolition is complete. We’ve also stripped
much of the drywall off the walls and ceiling.

giving a view of the kitchen when the project is finished.

Block foundation is up. Brian is laying out floor joists.

The first external wall has been removed. When finished,
this view will be looking into the kitchen.

This doorway will be infilled with brick we removed from the
other side of the house. On the other side will be mudroom cabinets.

This framing will become the mudroom walls and a closet.

The wall here is temporary. It supports the second
floor while installing the new beam.

With the second floor successfully supported, the
temporary wall is removed leaving the space is open.

While we’ve been working upstairs, our clients have been
using this temporary kitchen in the basement.

We built a soffit to hide the beam, along with some
plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. The hood and cooktop
will be centered below this soffit.

The kitchen sink window is installed.
