AFTER PHOTOS

This project took place from September 2016 thru January 2017. A complete gut and reconfiguration of a master suite as well as conversion of an attic into a 3rd floor home office and exercise space. The photo blog below shows how the project unfolded.

September 13, 2016

In this picture you can see the previous 1995 addition at the rear of the home. The second floor of that addition will be completely remodeled for a master suite.  A third floor will be added above that addition as well.

A view of the existing bathroom.

A view of the existing attic which will be converted into the exercise room and home office.

So, how will things change?
Glad you asked...

This 3D model shows the new master suite layout.
This includes a bedroom, walk-in closet, and bathroom.

A view of the future master bathroom.

Another view of the new bathroom with soaking tub.

And a view of the new master bedroom.

Construction is scheduled to start very soon so please check back in to watch our progress.

September 19, 2016

With all of the design work and preplanning behind us it is time for demolition day!

Excitement is high for our clients as the dumpster trailer is on site.

…and the interior of the house is well protected.

Demolition of the two bedrooms and a bathroom will make way for the new master bedroom suite.

The existing attic will become an exercise room so it will receive a beefier floor structure.

Day 2 of demolition and the roof is already gone!

September 23, 2016

The new roof trusses have arrived and are prepared on the ground.
Now all we need is a crane.

What do you do when a home is open to the sky above and rain creeps in?
You create an ingenious tarp and water trough system.
"I love it when a plan comes together..."

Direct the rain water to a trough and shoot it straight out the window :-).

September 27, 2016

With a beautiful sky and totally cool move, the third floor addition takes shape as the crane lowers the roof trusses into place.

A view looking into the new third floor home office.
Can you imagine the view once the leaves turn?

And a view from the new home office looking into the existing attic.
You can see that the existing attic area has received a new floor structure.

Now on the second floor – a view of the new master suite.
The windows that you see here will be within the new master bathroom.

And speaking of the master bathroom.  Here is a sneak peek of what is to come!

October 13, 2016

Major framing is taking place on the third floor!

This old attic space is being tied in and becoming part of the new spacious third floor.

The third floor is taking shape.  It is going to be quite the home office and exercise space.

Meanwhile the exterior of the home has been outfitted with new cedar shake siding.

Just in time for the change of season –
the third floor the spray foam insulation has been applied.

A view of the third floor office space.
Two skylights and fully insulated.

November 1, 2016

And down on the second floor the master bedroom is taking shape.  Insulation, windows, ductwork, and electrical… check, check, check, and check.

This is a view looking into the master bathroom shower.  You can see that this shower is outfitted with a bench.  Next step….drywall.

November 10, 2016

The drywall installation is well underway!

The new 3rd floor will have an exercise area

as well as a home office looking out onto their beautiful trees.

November 17, 2016

Now we work on the staircase leading down to the second floor.

A view of the master bathroom shower.
The low wall shown here will allow natural light to pour into the shower.

December 2, 2016

The window view, the sky light, the angles... this will be a beautiful home office.
Umm, might be hard to get any work done

and the exercise room

This wood plank ceramic tile is the flooring in the new master bathroom.

And a classic 2x2 hexagon pattern for the shower floor.

The installation of the spacious vanity (8 feet long) is underway.

December 13, 2016

Two built-in bookcases will flank a window facing desk within the new third floor office.

The master bathroom shower finishes include a soft gray subway tile, a classic white hexagon tile, and white Corian solid surfacing. The design of a half high wall allows natural light to pour into the shower.

The devil is in the detail!
This photo of the shower curb shows the tight tolerances and clean installation of multiple materials.

Ample storage within the master bathroom vanity.
There will be a total of six drawers.

Here is a sneak peek at the master bedroom walk-in closet door.
Yes….a sliding barn door!

January 4, 2017

The master bathroom vanity countertop has been installed. The backsplash is comprised of a gray subway tile along the back wall and white wainscoting at each side.

Here’s a close up view of the countertop and wainscoting.

The new oak floors and been installed and finished within the master bedroom and closets.

Trimwork on the new third floor staircase has begun.
These will be stained to match the new wood floors.

The light fixtures have been installed on the third floor.

Our project on Morton Ave is close to completion...

A view of the beautiful new oak flooring installed throughout the master bedroom suite.

A sliding barn door for the ‘hers’ walk-in closet.

The showpiece of the bathroom is this soaking tub (centered perfectly on the window).

The shower enclosure is designed to take full advantage of the natural light and views outside,
while the toilet has been nicely tucked out of sight for semi-private use

January 18, 2017

The elegant master suite and attic conversion is complete. We reconfigured and added space blending old and new. The 3rd floor is now ready to be a useful home office and exercise room. You can see this home in person on the Tour of Remodeled Homes, March 25-26, 2017. To purchase tickets please call our office or visit the NARI website.
